5 Unusual Casinos that Will Blow Your Mind

Throughout the centuries, people gambled in any place they could.  The dedicated gambling venues, called gambling houses, first emerged he seventeenth-century Europe. From that time on, casinos could be found in almost every major city.

Now, the gambling venues can be found in the most unexpected locations, like on the board of an airplane or deep in a cave. Let’s look at some of the world’s weirdest casino locations in this GBC Time article.

Casino Jet Lounge: France

If you are up for some sky-high gambling, there is a casino jet lounge on the board of a Boeing 777. Designed by the French company Airjet Desing, the lounge had several casino tables and a zone for drinks and small talk. The casino section of the plane would be open only to the VIP passengers, with wagers starting from £30k. All gambling would take place during the flight. At the takeoff, landing, and in case of turbulence, the casino would be closed.

Unfortunately, the jet casino remained only a project.

Casino in a cave: Australia

Desert Cave Resort in Australia is rightfully considered one of the most unusual casinos in the world. The casino is located in the underground cave of Cooper Pedy – the town built in the middle of the desert and known for precious opals. Due to strong winds and extremely high temperatures, residents had to place their houses inside the huge sandstones. And in 1988, Umberto Coro opened a hotel and a casino in one of these caves.

The cave casino features sixteen poker machines, a bar, and a restaurant. Visitors can also book accommodation in one of the hotel rooms and swim in the pool – all inside the cave.

The Ice Casino: Sweden

In this Scandinavian country, tourists can gamble at a casino where everything is made of ice. And we mean everything – from walls and ceilings to casino tables and gaming chips. Be prepared for a chilly visit, as the temperature inside the gambling venue can drop to -5 degrees.

Located in the Arctic tundra, the Ice Casino opened its doors in 2015. The place offers its visitors a unique gambling experience, which is available only in winter. The Ice Casino melts down every summer and has to be rebuilt once the cold weather starts.

Casino at a safari lodge: South Africa

South Africa is known for its exotic flora and fauna. Every year, thousands of tourists go to RSA for a safari trip. What if you could play games of chance during these visits too?

That is exactly what the Sun City Resort Casino owners thought. The luxury safari lodge offers its guests a variety of casino games – roulette, slots, and card tables. At the same time, the resort visitors can watch the animals of Africa right from the windows of the casino.

Casino in a cab: the United Kingdom

In the summer of 2016, the UK gamblers saw one of the strangest casinos of all time. Local gambling operator Grosvenor opened a casino in the back of a taxi. The host of the “world’s smallest traveling casino” – cricket pro Phil Tufnel – offered passengers to play blackjack at a dedicated table or try out online games of chance on a tablet. Everyone could halt a cab on the street or request it via Twitter. The cab was located in several UK cities:

  • London;
  • Birmingham;
  • Manchester;
  • Leeds;
  • Glasgow.

Unfortunately, you cannot visit this casino now. After the end of the promotion, the taxi cab was put back into storage.
