Portugal received a record online gambling revenue in the first quarter of 2024.
Online sports betting and gambling revenue in Portugal totaled €260.9 million in the first quarter, up 14.8% from the previous quarter and marking the seventh consecutive record quarterly revenue.
The key changes:
- Sports betting accounted for 38.6% of the total, while gambling accounted for 61.4%.
- According to regulator SRIJ, total revenue was up €33.6 million year-on-year.
- There were 4.3 million registered players in the first quarter, an increase of 15.6%, while the number of new players rose by 304.1 thousand, 28% more than last year.
- Tax collections from online gaming in Portugal reached 86.2 million euros in the first quarter, an increase of 36.6% compared to the same quarter in 2023.
- Quarterly revenue from online sports betting increased by 17% to €100.6 million on bets of €574.0 million.
- The online sports betting margin for the period was 17.5%.
- During the quarter, 72% of sports bets were placed on soccer, another 14% on tennis and 14% on other sports.
