Ecuador: new income tax for bookmakers has come into force

Ecuadorian Internal Revenue Service

The Ecuadorian Internal Revenue Service (SRI) announced that a flat income tax on revenues earned by sports betting operators began to be levied on July 1 of this year.

The innovation came in accordance with the so-called “Organic Decree-Law for Strengthening the Family Economy”, which was the last tax reform carried out by the government of the ultra-right-wing ex-president Guillermo Lasso (by the way, very interesting). “It was the last tax reform carried out by the government of the ultra-right-wing ex-president Guillermo Lasso (by the way, a very interesting character, a manager by training, an expert in banking… we will write about him sometime). The tax levies a 15% rate on income earned by sports prediction operators, both residents and non-residents.

Operators may, however, deduct from this income the prizes paid for which they have made the appropriate withholding at source.

Player prizes are also subject to a 15% income tax, which will be withheld and paid to the Treasury by the operators.

NON-REPRESENTATIVE OPERATORS can find the procedure for requesting registration in the “Single Register of Taxpayers” (RUC) on the SRI website. There is no way to do it without it.
