The popular bank transfer Giropay (which also includes the paydirekt platform) was for a long time one of the largest in the country.
What is the reason behind the decision to close? Giropay will be replaced by the new European platform WERO.
Today, the success rate of transactions in Giropay has significantly decreased, which is most likely due to the obsolescence of the technology and the growth of competitors that offer more interesting payment options.
WERO will be launched under the European Payment Initiative based on A2A (account-to-account) and will provide the same essence but better.
The technology is expected to become the new standard in the EU and all merchants will migrate to it. The launch is planned first in Belgium and France, later in Germany and the Netherlands; and should happen very soon.
