Germany has issued the first localised online gambling licences.

German gambling license

The federal state of the Schleswig-Holstein has become the first to grant German gambling license to commercial operators to provide live casino and table games.

The lucky ones were operators: Tipico, BluBet, Cashpoint and Skill on Net.

Local legalisation of online slots and poker in the country is possible by agreement with the federal regulator GGL.

The Gambling Association from neighbouring Austria likes this move: Cashpoint is an Austrian operator, and the start of iGaming licensing in the German states will ‘minimise the risks for online gamblers’.

With illegals taking between 4% and 20% of the country’s market, the new move is of interest in the context of the fight against the underground.

On the other hand, the most prominent example of localised gambling licensing right now is the US. And in the States there is already a trend towards unification and centralisation of legislation.
