What is League of Legends?

League of Legends (LoL) is one of the most popular games in the category of MOBA. One map, two competitive teams and one purpose only – to destroy the enemy’s Nexus. But it is easy to say and hard to accomplish. In the first place, it is necessary to slay your rivals and waves of minions and then destroy all towers in the way to the Nexus. Therefore, thanks to this challenging mechanic, this MOBA is one of the most in-demand games.

System Requirements of League of Legends

The game was developed and released 15 years ago. At the very first stage, the minimum and recommended system requirements were not so high, and almost everyone could download the League of Legends game and fight the enemies. But during these long ten years, the game developer has applied many new and innovative technologies, improved graphics, and the game seems to become a bit demanding in terms of hardware. Plot

You will be transferred to the fiction world of Runeterra. The fictional continent of Valoran became the arena of the battle for champions for world domination, political and territorial changes of states. Another world called the Howling Abyss also sends its characters to take part in an endless battle.

According to the plot of the game, great magicians, who created some form of tribunal, justice and conflict resolution in the form of a league, own Valoran. Challengers in the form of players could control different characters to solve problems on the field. To equalize the chances, the magicians reduced the skills of the characters to the initial level.

In 2014, Riot Games made a difference in the universe, adding stories to all the characters and personal motivation to participate in the League of Legends. This moment allowed us to process each character and give them liveliness and realism. Now, they have become not just living puppets in the hands of players but absolute legends that decide the fate of the entire universe.

There are two major states in this world – Demacia and Noxus. Demacia is well-known for bravery, fearlessness and courage. The second state follows the way of logic, trickery and agility. In addition, there are countless small and large city-states in the game, each of which has its own heroes, ready to fight for the common good. There are also fallen and monsters who came alive from the Howling Abyss.

Battlefields

In League of Legends, every single confrontation is a unique game. And you cannot bring anything from match to match to influence your gameplay. The only exception is your personal experience, of course.

The game features several modes that you can choose from to play. The most chosen one is Summoner Rift. Typically, it is a battlefield with three lines (Top, Mid, and Bot) and the forest between them, where five champions fight against five rivals to destroy the enemy’s Nexus.

Additional Locations

For sure, you can also travel to the Howling Abyss land on the Morder Bridge (a playground with a single line), where you find a more intense battle against your enemies.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in a battle in Shadow Isles (Twisted Treeline), where only six players can take part.

League of Legends Ranked Divisions in 2025

Fairness and progress are the essences of competitive play. To ensure fair matches for everyone and set goals for ambitious players, Riot Games has created a League of Legends ranked system that structures the chaos of matches, breaking it down into tiers and divisions.

Before you enter into your first division, you need to play ten ranked games. The system will define you to one out of nine tiers by analyzing your gaming style, KDA (kills/deaths/assists), and flow of wins and losses.

The floor of the ranked list is an Iron Tier, where the most unskilled players are gathered. And your essential task (if you want to climb the ranking) is to go through all the divisions to reach the highest and most prestigious point – the Challenger Tier. But each tier (from Iron to Diamond) consists of four divisions that you need to go through before the next promotion.

After reaching the Master Tier, the real challenge begins. Only 2% of all players are in this high-competitive league. And this moment means that the terms of your further promotion will be slightly different from the lower Tiers.

League of Legends Champions and Main Roles

By writing this League of Legends review, the League of Legends champions list includes 157 unique characters with their individual stories and abilities to fight against each other. And all of them will help you go higher and higher to reach the highest tier of Challenger. All brave champions are divided into five primary roles:

  • Ability-Power Carry (APC) / Mage – Mid Laner;
  • Attack-Damage Carry (ADC) / Marksman – Bottom lane;
  • Support – Bottom lane;
  • Bruiser/Tank – Top lane;
  • Jungler – Forest.

Magicians are interesting mainly in making mass damage and control. But they are capable of shooting down a single rival within a second.

The ADC or marksman is the team’s main combat power. These champions effectively destroy towers and heroes alike, but they require protection from the team’s side. Therefore, there is a support hero that protects and guards the marksman to help this champion open its full potential. The central role of the top lane champions is to take as much damage as possible.

And the jungler usually spends the time in the forest, appearing on different lines to help allied champions dominate on the line.

Every team must have a mage or at least someone with magic damage. Usually, the APC champions stay on the middle line, but some professional players also pick such powerful heroes on the top line. If there is no mage damage, the enemy team’s heroes will not have to buy artifacts for magic resistance. Instead, they will disperse the physical ones even more, and they will be challenging to defeat even for your ADC.

By the middle of the game, the team must come together to deal with enemies as effectively as possible. And the late phase of the game is the juiciest part of the battle because all the champions are fully equipped and can show their full potential. During this phase, even a slight mistake can change everything.

Talking about champions’ full potential, it is worth highlighting that every big update makes some characters sooooooo broken that some of them can win the game solo.

Evolution of the Game

For sure, if you watch old videos of the original gameplay, you will be wondering. Since that time, many moments, including gameplay, visualization, gaming mechanics, champions, have changed. Some players got completely updated/modified compared to their previous versions, new ancient monsters and items appeared, and new challenges came to the game.

Wild Rift: League of Legends Mobile

Following the insane popularity of the game in the Western hemisphere, Riot Games decided to expand the borders and developed the League of Legends mobile game by the name of Wild Rift.

Wild Rift is the same MOBA game but with a restricted list of champions and a lower-sized map. In terms of gameplay, you will notice slight differences. But in general, the game seems the same as the original development.

Championships

Of course, League of Legends has its own challenging culture in the form of different regional and world championships. Every year is filled with a variety of tournaments with different winning pools. LCS or League of Legends Championship Series is an annual series that decide what team will participate in the most valuable tournament. And the League of Legends World Championship is the most prestigious event within the gaming community.

Arcane – Animated TV Show

Besides the League of Legends mobile game, the game developer tied into a partnership deal with Netflix and Tencent Video and released an animated TV Show – Arcane, based on one of the League of Legends’ main characters (Vi and her sister Powder).

Welcome to Summoners Rift again and enjoy the dynamic atmosphere of the challenging environment of Runeterra in the League of Legends games.
