TikTok updates ads: AI avatars and dubbing

TikTok has unveiled a number of new tools based on generative artificial intelligence designed to help organizations and content creators expand their audiences through customizable digital avatars and multi-language dubbing features. These additions to the Symphony suite aim to, in TikTok’s words, “reduce language barriers in marketing and bring a more human touch to content.”

As part of the new functionality, Symphony’s digital avatars are offered in two formats: standard and custom. Standard avatars are created from licensed images of actors of various backgrounds and nationalities and are available for commercial use.

Custom avatars are designed to visualize specific content creators or brand representatives and can speak multiple languages to reach an international audience. All videos created using these avatars are labeled “Created with AI”

Symphony AI Dubbing is a multilingual dubbing tool that can dub content into more than ten languages and dialects, including French, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Korean. TikTok notes that the tool can automatically recognize the language of a video, translate and dub it into the user’s chosen language.

Reviews of demonstration videos using custom-made digital avatars say they are “a little weird, but look natural and convincing enough.”

Details on the cost of TikTok’s new generative AI-based marketing tools have not yet been announced.
