Career in Gambling: All You Wanted To Know

Gambling is one of the fastest-growing industries. According to gambling news articles, more and more people become interested in applying for a position in this vertical.

Lena Nordin, Chief HR Officer at Betsson Group, has answered the most popular questions about gambling industry jobs.

What are the most in-demand jobs in the gambling industry?

The iGaming industry is ever-growing with a continuous trend from offline to online gambling. Just recently, we have teamed up with partners in several countries in Latin America, entered the Kenyan market, and also entered a partnership to provide our sportsbook in the US. So, you would understand that we are always on the lookout for talent within many different fields, from marketing to tech and everything in between. iGaming is a digital industry, so obviously that’s a competence that is high in demand.

In your opinion, what are the most favorable countries for those who want to establish a career in the vertical?

Our company has its headquarters in Malta, which as you know is an iGaming hub. Malta is a lovely island with an interesting history, a booming iGaming community, and an attractive Mediterranean lifestyle. We do, however, also have offices across the globe, from Peru to Georgia, so it depends on what role you are interested in and where you want to be located.

What soft skills are a must-have for becoming a professional in gambling?

iGaming is a fast-paced industry, so flexibility and an open and innovative mindset are key. No two days are alike, so working in the industry never gets boring.

What employee’s qualities help to succeed in the gambling career?

Taking ownership and responsibility is key for a successful career. One of the many benefits of working in iGaming is that the sky is the limit. If you have the right attitude, you can have a very interesting career. It is not rare for someone to start out as a Customer Service Agent – which is a great way to get to know the industry and a company – and then move on to other parts of the business and becoming head of a team in a few years’ time.

Is it difficult to find a good specialist in the iGaming industry? What obstacles do talent seekers face?

There is definitely a war for talent going on. I think that for a company to be on the winning team, it’s important to have a 360 approach to the employee experience. It is important to have a strong employer brand, but it’s not just about the brand but, of course, about the reality of working for the company. And that includes everything from the office environment to employee activities to benefits, not to mention professional development and the support you get from your manager.

What are the main HR challenges in this business?

Being in HR, our job is to support the organization in achieving a company’s business goals and delivering on the targets. We prefer to look for opportunities rather than focus on challenges, and there are plenty of possibilities in this interesting and dynamic industry!

Speaking about every segment of the gambling industry, which of them is worth considering for finding a good position?

That depends on who you are and what you are interested in – iGaming is a dynamic, interesting industry that has it all! If you are looking to have a job you enjoy and build a career, it is crucial that you choose a profession that you love.

What recommendations can you give to those who want to build a career in this vertical?

Go for it, you won’t regret it! Take the time to research the company you are interested in and try to get a feel for the company culture.
